Short Hiatus

OK, here’s the deal.  I am going on a short vacation.  I should have lots to report when I get back. In the mean time, here’s an interesting article on how organic food doesn’t have any health benefits over traditional farming. See you soon!

Completely Gratuitous

I was playing with my camera.  Here is a picture of my dog, Ella.  She is the opposite of helping in the garden.

Hydro Miracle Fruit

Here is a year-and-a-half old Miracle Fruit.  It has been in ebb and flow with 1000 ppm Flora Nova for the last year.   It is yet to fruit under 12/12 lighting for a year.  Regardless, it is one of my favorite specimens in my garden.

My New Toy

I have been working some long hours at my job and have been doing photography since college, so it’s about time that I picked up a new toy for fun.  It’s a Canon EOS Rebel.  Yummy.  Hopefully, the picture quality improves a bit with the beer, hydroponics, and food at red-icculus.com.

First Organic Tomato Harvest

I have been harvesting patio tomatoes for a while now, but I just picked my first organic Big Boy tomato.  A ‘mater muncher got a hold of this one, but it was only a small spot.  The smell of tomato filled the whole kitchen when I cut it open.  It was wonderful.

Leinenkugel Classic Amber Beer Review

We just had a release party for Leinenkugel Classic Amber a short time ago.  This replaced the Leine Original, which was a dog as far as sales and tasted like one too.  The Leine Classic Amber was an OK surprise from Leine Original. It pours a light brown body with one finger, bubbly head with [...]

Rockin’ The Suburbs

My friend Tigerlilly brought up an interesting point about tomatoes and light exposure.  As much scouting as I did with a light meter, I am only getting 6-7 hours of direct light a day.  Thanks to an East/West exposure and several overgrown locust trees, they haven’t matured quite yet. Despite the slightly delayed harvest, these [...]

Quinoa

I have been so engrossed in gardening season, I realized I haven’t done a beer or food post in a while.  Despite being so focused on the garden, we always try to eat well.  Lately, I have been really into quinoa. Over 7,000 years ago the Inca called quinoa the ‘Mother Grain’. It was a [...]

6-Foot Tomaters

When these tomato plants start producing, they are going to be monsters.  There are more than 100 fruits on the 4 plants that I have.  It is just homemade compost tilled into Indiana clay and mulched.

Help Red Identify This Flower

I like this flower a lot.  It came with the house and I haven’t seen it at any garden shops.  What the heck is it?
