Bhut Jolokia in Recirculating Coco under LED

Here is a bhut jolokia under a 6-band HO LED light.  Notice the nice tight node length. Recirculating coco is almost too easy.  Mix half-strength nutrients, add a little humus and water twice a day for 15 minutes.  Don’t worry about overwatering.  Change the res when the nutrient solution gets too low. Coco naturally has [...]

First Miracle Fruit in 2 Years!

I have been pumping nutrients and lumens into my Miracle Fruit plants for a couple years.  They have been flowering for a few months, but I didn’t bother with hand-pollinating.  Lo and behold, I noticed my first Miracle Fruit. After all this time, I am wondering if I should plant it for another plant or [...]

Hydroponic Orchid

Here is a Homus Depotus orchid growing in higromite.  It was in pretty bad shape when I got it, so it is nice to see it thrive.

Bhut Jolokia Bonchi

I have previously written on the GH blog about Bonchi, or bonsai chile peppers.  I saw this shape of a chile pepper plant in a dream.  It took me a year of training this Bhut Jolokia plant, but it is almost complete.

Growing Plants With Coco Coir

Coco coir is a great renewable plant growing medium made from coconut husks.  With a few easy steps, it can give great yields to any hydroponic garden. 1. Flush, flush flush Coir is typically derived from ocean coastal regions.  This means that processed coir has a high salt content that isn’t beneficial to growing plants.  [...]

The Bhut Jolokia Growing Medium Challenge: FAIL

The “Organic Soil vs. Hydroton vs. Higromite” challenge failed for several reasons and it is all my fault. As you can see, the organic soil is lapping the hydro seedlings.  It started to get a touch of interveinal chlorosis, so a shot of CalMag made the soil plant take off.  The other two were receiving [...]

Bhut Jolokia

I am growing Bhut Jolokias in hydro with FloraNectar as a supplement.  They are a million Scoville units normally, but the FloraNectar makes the area they are growing in like it is full of tear gas.  These things are dangerous and they aren’t even ripe! They even look dangerous like no human should eat them.

Reggae Rising (Part 2)

General Hydroponics was at Reggae Rising, launching their new General Organics line, suitable in hydro, soil and coco. I set up camp with the GH crew.  I proceeded to freeze my ass off assuming Cali weather was nice all year). It was several days of world renowned Reggae music.  The photo pit passes for media [...]

The Road To Reggae Rising (Part 1)

General Hydroponics invited me to go to Reggae Rising, one of the best Reggae concerts in the world.  I would be doing the photography for the concert and for Gen Hydro, promoting their new General Organics line. I was picked up by Tigerlilly at the San Fran airport.   We shot the bull about gardening [...]

Short Hiatus

OK, here’s the deal.  I am going on a short vacation.  I should have lots to report when I get back. In the mean time, here’s an interesting article on how organic food doesn’t have any health benefits over traditional farming. See you soon!
